A GROUP for victims of sex abuse wants to ban Mike Tyson from a speaking engagement because he is a convicted rapist.
The 46-year-old former heavyweight world champion is due to appear in An Evening With Mike Tyson, with tickets costing up to £100.
Tyson, who served three years for rape, will talk about his sporting career at Barnsley’s Metrodome in October.
But Lynne Casserly of Barnsley Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Service said: “Tyson is a convicted rapist and we struggle to see why anyone would want to listen to somebody like that.
“People seem to be prepared to forgive and forget the crimes of celebrities. There is a big difference between being famous and being infamous.”
Promoter Tony Dunn said: “We don’t want to offend anybody. He’s talking purely about his achievements in the ring.”
